Curated, safe videos for young children · iOS and Android
KVideo Kids is a simple video player for young children. Videos come from a fixed, hand-picked list of official children's channels on YouTube, and only videos their own channel marked "Made for Kids" are shown. There is no search, no comments, no sign-in and no account. The app is free, and a small number of ads keeps it that way, from version 1.3 on iPhone and iPad and on Android as well. There are answers about them below.
Tap the menu button at the top right of the home screen and choose Parents Area. You will be asked to type the answer to a small addition problem. This keeps children out. The Parents Area holds the daily time limit, the bedtime lock, the channel list, the watch history, and the Ads section: how to report an ad, what an ad is chosen from, and the privacy policy.
Parents Area → Daily screen time. Choose 30, 60 or 90 minutes, or Off. When the limit is reached the app shows a friendly "time's up" screen until the next day. The time an ad is on screen counts towards the limit too, and the app never shows an ad in the last minute before the limit.
Parents Area → Bedtime lock. Set a start and end hour; the range may cross midnight. During those hours the app will not play videos, and it shows no ads either.
Parents Area → Channels. Switch off any channel and it disappears from the home screen immediately.
Only the videos on the home screen. There is no search box and no way to browse YouTube. If the player tries to open YouTube or a web page, for example when the YouTube logo is tapped, the app blocks it and asks for a grown-up to solve the same addition problem first. The one thing the app itself cannot gate is an ad: an ad is shown by the advertising software, and a tap on it can open the advertiser's page in the store or a browser. On iPhone and iPad such a link passes through Kidoz's own age gate; on Android it can open as in any free app.
Yes, occasionally, on both platforms: one full screen ad may appear after your child finishes watching and taps Back to the video list, once the screen has been left untouched for a moment. Never when the app opens, never during a video, never between videos, never on the time's up screen and never in the Parents Area. There are no ads at all in the first three times the app is opened, none in the first minute and a half of a sitting, and after that at most two in one sitting and four in a day, at least five minutes apart, and only after real watching.
On iPhone and iPad the ads come from Kidoz, an ad network for children's apps. Kidoz publishes a safe ad policy under which every ad campaign is reviewed by hand by its own team, and it serves contextual ads: an ad is chosen for this app and its age group and for the country and language of the device, never for anything your child watches or does in the app, and no advertising identifier is used. The iPhone and iPad app contains no Google advertising software. On Android the ads come from Google (AdMob), sometimes supplied by Kidoz, under the Google Play Families program, rated for all audiences, contextual only, with no personalized ads, no tracking and no advertising ID.
On iPhone and iPad: open the Parents Area (menu, top right, then the addition problem) and tap Report an ad. It opens a mail to webhym@gmail.com with the app version, the build number and the time already in it, and nothing about the device or about your child; please add what the ad showed. The address is printed under the row as well, so you can write from any device. On either platform you can simply email us. It helps if you say which device you use, roughly when the ad appeared, and add a screenshot if you took one. We answer, and we pass the report on to the ad network.
A tap can open an App Store or Google Play page or a web page, inside the app or in the browser. On iPhone and iPad, Kidoz documents mandatory age gates on external links, and its software carries its own age gate for that, so a tap that would leave the app passes through Kidoz's gate. On Android, as in any free app, a tap can open the store directly. The app itself adds no link that leaves your child's viewing context without our own parental gate in front of it. If you want your child not to be able to leave the app at all, use Guided Access on iPhone and iPad (Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access) or app pinning on Android.
Parents Area → Watch history → Clear. It is stored on the device only, and entries older than 30 days are removed automatically.
Uninstall the app. Everything it remembers (favorites, parental settings, history and the counters that limit ads) lives on the device and is removed with it. We hold nothing on any server. To ask what the ad network may have received, or to have it deleted, write to webhym@gmail.com; the privacy policy explains what that is and how the request is handled.
The app is free and has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.
We never sell personal information, never build a profile of your child and never show personalized ads. There are no accounts and no analytics software of ours, and the app itself collects nothing; the ad network's own ad statistics are described in the privacy policy. The full KVideo Kids Privacy Policy lists exactly what the ad network receives in order to show an ad, on each platform, and what stays on the device.
